Our main practice is a purpose-built clinic with a well-equipped surgery on-site, located on Hillock Lane within a green-belt area of Preston. We’re extremely lucky to have a beautiful meadow surrounding our practice that our team, clients, and pets can enjoy.

Our smaller branch surgery is on Whitegate Drive in Blackpool, just one mile from Stanley Park and 1.5 miles from Blackpool beach.

Plus, we also offer an excellent benefits package:

  • Generous CPD allowance
  • Staff discount and fixed insurance excess contribution

  • Workplace pension
  • Christmas party

Meet our wonderful team

RVN (Newly Qualified)

Rowan Veterinary Centre is an independent small animal practice across two sites. Our purpose built practice in Warton (near Kirkham) is a nurse training practice and silver cat friendly clinic.

Our second practice is in Blackpool, we provide the same excellent care to pets and their owners, at both sites.

Our out of hours is provided by The Emergency Veterinary Service in Lytham St Anne’s. This means that we don’t have any out of hours phones. This was an important change for us to make to improve work life balance for our staff. We do still look after our own inpatients so that we can keep continuity and provide the best care.

Our Team

We have ten vets with Advanced Practitioners in pain management and dermatology and are fully supported by a dedicated front of house team. We also have a visiting certificate holder in orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery and a visiting specialist in cardiology.  This allows us to provide a fantastic standard of care to all our patients and the opportunity to care for interesting and challenging cases.

Our fantastic nursing team of six Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVN’s), one Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN), two Animal Care Assistant’s (ACA’s), two auxiliary nurses and one Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA). Our RVN’s are encouraged to undertake training in an area of interest, that aligns with our practice progression. We currently have nurse led clinics in nutrition, senior cats and dermatology. We also have nurse led puppy classes. Our head nurse has a Diploma in Feline Nursing and is an Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) certificate holder, who is currently undertaking a Certificate in Medical Nursing. The nursing team is integral to the practice and is valued as such with CPD and further study supported and encouraged.
We have a very friendly and inclusive team right across the practice with vets, nurses and client care team staff all supporting each other, in a professional environment. We are looking for the right candidate to maintain and enhance our practice culture.

The Role

We are looking for a newly qualified RVN to add to our growing practice team. We have an inclusive nursing team, who are very welcoming and supportive to new colleagues. The head nurse and the rest of the management team are extremely approachable and will provide lots of support and further training where needed. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, proactive and motivated to implement a high quality first opinion service to our patients and clients.

Our RVNs work a fixed rota Monday to Thursday, this includes the following:

  • 2x 8:30-7:30pm
  • 1x 8:30-6:30pm
  • 1x day off

Our weekend rota is just 1:5, consisting of the following weekend shifts:

  • Friday finish at 6.30pm

  • Friday finish at 7.30pm and inpatient night on-call, a Saturday morning shift (8.30am-1.30pm), then be on call until any inpatients are discharged.

We have a system in place to submit the weekends you wish to or wish not to work, allowing flexibility for everyone when making plans outside of work.

We are offering:

  • A starting salary of around £25,000 per annum for a 38 hour week. This will increase to around £26,000 when back up on call is no longer required. This is inclusive of inpatient on call retainer, plus paid call-out fee and hourly rate if called in.
