#fatcat
January 5, 2023
A 2022 Cat’s Protection League study highlighted a very interesting fact that we wanted to share with owners.
Owners who are worried about living costs were significantly more likely to perceive their cat as underweight (44%) compared to owners who weren’t worried about living costs (35%).
This kind of information is always useful to us at #rowanvets. It helps us understand what owners need to know to make informed health choices about their cat’s health.
It can be tricky to know if your cat is at the correct weight, mainly due to all that #floof, but there is a method and it’s REALLY easy to learn.
Here at Rowan Vets we use a #triedandtested method called #bodyconditionscore. It’s a combination of a visual look and a “hands on” feel to gauge where your #cat sits within a range, rather than a number on a weighing scale. This range is made of three categories:
- 1-3 – Underweight
- 4-5 – Ideal weight
- 6-9 – Overweight
To learn this method, visit the PDSA website and follow the instructions, using their chart to identify your #cats body score.
Once you have your score why not share it with us? Whether your cat is overweight, underweight or just right, book a complimentary session with Amy, RVN, who can advise on weight loss, gain or maintenance as well as diet and healthy treat alternatives.
Proactively managing your cat’s weight means you can potentially avoid the stress and cost of treating or managing any associated disease that can occur, such as heart disease or arthritis, as well as maximizing their #qualityoflife.
As always, we are here to help with advice and services that can support your pet’s health.
