What is my pet’s body condition score?
January 17, 2022
Back in December we posted a news article all about the ways in which you and your dog could take an eco-friendly approach to getting fit. You can read all about it HERE
Sometimes it’s not easy to know what you need to do OR to get motivated when it comes to fitness. This is especially so when it comes to our pet’s weight. #rowanrecommends you take advantage of our FREE weight management clinics to help get you on the right track.
Run by a qualified and registered veterinary nurse (RVN), the clinics cater for cats and dogs of ALL ages. They provide support and guidance for patients who are overweight, underweight as well as offering support and advice on a good nutritional start for puppies and kittens.
A first appointment typically lasts 20 minutes. Your pet will be weighed and their neck, chest and waist measured. These will be recorded to compare and measure progress. Other information about your pet’s current diet and amounts (including any treats), as
well as their exercise regime will also be recorded. Part of the assessment also includes giving a body condition score.
Once all the information is gathered you will be provided with a recommendation and agree to a weight management plan to address your pet’s needs.
Plans can also address weight issues relating to life-stage; puppy/kitten, after neutering, adult OR senior.
Subsequent visits usually occur every 4 weeks. Your pet’s weight and body measurements will be recorded to compare to the initial measurements taken. This information will be used to inform any changes or adjustments to the original plan if needed.
If you’d like to discuss any issues that might be affecting your pet’s weight, contact the client care team on PetsApp or by calling 01772 639800 OR 01253 766352.
